WHAT IS CHARCOAL SHAMPOO? AND WHAT’S THE DEAL?
This is our best kept secret for healthy hair.
It only takes one short visit to Target, CVS, or Sephora to pick up on the fact that Charcoal has recently made a pretty big name for itself with beauty lovers. In fact, walk through the isles of Sephora and you’ll see that just about every line has added charcoal-based products. Say no more to hair products that actually dry out hair and do more bad than good - although they still exist. Keep that beauty inspector eye out! However, you might be wondering, why are charcoal-based products are so popular now a days? And what are the REAL benefits behind it? Girl, let me tell ya.
Charcoal shampoo stands up to its hype. It’s known for pulling out toxins and purifying qualities - heck yes! The activated charcoal works on your scalp in a way that it does on skin and hair, by pulling on the environmental pollutants and toxins your hair clings onto everyday. I definitely don’t want that stuck in my hair. Also, it’s great for relieving redness, oil and dandruff from your scalp. Most shampoo ingredients can clog up pores within time which causes the scalp from producing natural oils to keep it from getting dry. Dry hair? NO thanks! In the long term, it can affect hair growth as well. But have no fear, the magical wonders of charcoal are here! (p.s. That totally rhymes. Kudos to me.)
I have to say my friends are the best source of information when it comes to personal care. I was chit-chatting with my friend the other day about how frustrating it is for me not being able to find the right dry shampoo that won’t way down my hair or make it oily. Because the whole point of dry shampoo is to get rid of that “haven’t washed my hair” look instead of adding more of the oil, right? I mean I felt like I was alone in this journey of finding the right dry shampoo for my hair. She then tells me something I wasn’t prepared for- charcoal dry shampoo. I thought to myself “there’s no way I am putting charcoal on my hair.” But then I thought it can’t hurt to try! She then showed me charcoal shampoo and the magic behind it. I was shocked. And sold. So I gave it a test, loved it and now use it as part of my hair routine. And you guys, I wish I was introduced to this sooner!
So here I am to save you some time and money, because I sure wish I did.
Bye, Bye Toxins
Ok first, let us all keep in mind charcoal shampoo is not your average shampoo that can be used daily. This product is best when used once a week or even every other week just to test it out. In a nutshell, charcoal traps toxins like a magnet when consumed or used on skin. It’s great for a deep clean and helps get rid of any product buildup. Since its natural, it won’t add any chemicals to the scalp and hair.
Hair Don't Care
Remember when we mentioned there can be buildup on the scalp due to shampoo ingredients and that charcoal can get rid of that? That means pores on the scalp shrink within time. Which connects to helping hair growth and volume. Yes you read that right. I mean what kind of magic is this?! (Runs to the nearest organic shop). Since the activated charcoal is helping get rid of toxins that make the hair weigh down and lifeless, hair goes back to its natural bounce. Now your hair can be so big it’s full of secrets ( Mean Girls reference anyone?).
