THE BEST EMERGENCY BEAUTY REPLACEMENTS FOR WOMEN ON-THE-GO
"HELP! IT'S AN EMERGENCY"
You can thank us later.
You’re getting ready for a morning meeting after a late night out and can’t find your depuffing eye cream. A few hours later, you’re leaving work to go straight to drinks with friends, but left your makeup bag at home and only have the random beauty items at the bottom of your handbag. Beauty emergencies: We’ve all been there. But what to do? Time to get creative.
So to help you out next time you’re in a pinch, we at the Paradox office have created a list of our top 10 emergency beauty replacements. You’re welcome.
1 / Puffy under eyes? Grab a cold spoon.
You’re heading out for work, but you haven’t slept much this week. You look in the mirror searching for your eye cream, but can’t find it. It happens to the best of us. No problem. Keep 2 cold metal spoons in the freezer at all times and grab them next time you find your tired eyes in this situation. Simply place the spoons under your eyes for 1 - 2 minutes. The coolness reduces puffiness, relaxes the eye area, and is a temporary solution to puffiness. Our Founder, Elise, admits to doing this at least twice per week.
2 / Skip your primer and grab some aloe vera.
Aloe vera isn’t just for healing sun burns - it’s a great replacement for your everyday primer because of its hydrating, pore-refining and calming properties. Perfect, right? If you’re in a pinch, grab a few drops of aloe vera (you don’t need a lot) and gently apply to your skin. After dabbing it on, blend it with a brush or beauty blender. It might feel a bit sticky at first, as noted by Bree from beauty blog Lovelierie, but giving it a few minutes to set will do the trick.
3 / Oily hair? Try using your translucent powder.
Fix oily or flat hair in a pinch with your favorite translucent powder. Annie from Into The Gloss suggests using a powder brush and dusting it along your roots, much like powdering your t-zone. Even beauty blogger Michelle Phan raves about it!
4 / Brighten up your lashes with coconut oil.
Trader Joes, THE greatest store known to womankind, now carries coconut oil packets. Boom. Life-changing, I know. Keeping a few of those packets around will always pay off. Our latest favorite hack is using coconut oil as an eye-makeup remover or to moisturize/brighten eyelashes.
5 / Plump your lips with peppermint oil.
Can’t find your lip plumper? Take 2 minutes to mix a few drops of peppermint oil into a teaspoon of coconut oil and apply it to your lips. Not only is it an amazing lip plumping hack, but your lips will stay hydrated all night long. Bloggers at The Beauty Bean love it too!
6 / Thread vs. Dental Floss.
We all have this moment...you’re heading to your next meeting, yet you can’t get that pesky piece of your lunch out of your teeth. What’s a #girlboss with no dental floss to do? Use a piece of thread, of course! Just be gentle. I’m going to admit, I’ve totally done this by ripping a stray thread from my coat. I felt genius.
7 / No eyeliner? Mascara is your new bestie.
Hit the bottom of your favorite eyeliner? No fear - grab your favorite mascara and use an angled brush to dip into the tube. Next, lines your eyes as you like! If you need a tutorial - Danelle at Bustle raved out 3 ways she used mascara as eyeliner.
8 / Traveling with the wrong foundation color? Use it to contour.
Yikes - you accidentally placed the wrong foundation color into your purse and you don’t have the receipt to return it while traveling. Skip the hassle and use the foundation as a contour instead. FYI - Kate at Cosmopolitan suggests using powder products as a bronzer instead of a contour product.
9 / Missing your brow gel? Hairspray to the rescue.
If you run out of brow gel, spraying a bit of hairspray on your brow brush will do the trick. Comb through your brows for a polished look.
10 / Lipstick as Blush.
We saved one of the neatest hacks for last - using your lipstick as blush! You’ve probably heard from your favorite beauty bloggers about this hack, but, how do you do it correctly? Bloggers at The Beauty Department suggest sweeping your fingers across the lipstick and rubbing it into your fingers to warm it up. Next, smile in the mirror and dab onto your cheeks, swiping up to your cheekbones.
We can’t wait to see some of you try out these hacks. Did we miss anything? - let us know on Instagram or in the comments below.
