Confession: I’m a beauty product hoarder. Do I really need two types of moisturizers and four different face creams in my beauty cabinet? Probably not — but I’m sure many of you know the struggle, right?! You know how it is… You find products you like, and new products continue to show up. And sometimes, the beauty cabinet just starts to clutter itself! #Relatable
Well, it’s time to clean out the beauty cabinet. Summer is approaching, and I’m here for it. Let’s make sure our skin is here for it too! Let’s declutter and do our skin right.
Here are my five skin care must-haves to help declutter and build your beauty cabinet (without getting overwhelmed).
We all know how good it feels to unwind at home after a long day. We like to put our hair up, get into the comfiest clothes we own and catch up on reality TV shows. (BTW, this season of the Bachelorette is a must watch.) Now, it’s time to let our skin unwind too!
Excess oil, dead skin cells and impurities get collected on your skin throughout the day, and a cleanser will help get rid of all those debris for a healthy-looking skin. Using a cleanser will also help better absorb other products you apply to your face.
Not only is it necessary to cleanse after a long day, but it’s also a good idea to cleanse your face in the morning. Why not start your day fresh faced? You’ll remove any toxins the skin released during the night and even prep your skin for makeup.
Just like most products, you should look into cleansers that are right for your skin type. Dermatologists recommend foamy, oil-free cleansers for oily skin types and creamy cleansers for dry skin types. It’s always a great idea to steer away from cleansers with heavy fragrances and additives. If you want to deep cleanse, use a toner to remove any traces of the cleanser or makeup residue. It will help lock in moisture and shrink your pores as well.
HERE’S A CLEANSER WE LIKE:
Glossier: Milky Jelly Cleanser
This cleanser is vegan, hypoallergenic and great for all skin types. It’s also paraben free, sulfate free, cruelty free and made with a blend of five skin conditioners.
Alright ladies, throw on your robes and grab your wine. Let’s talk about face masks. I think we can all agree that putting on a face mask and letting it work its magic can be fun and relaxing — especially when you have your girlfriends to do it with. I’m just going to warn you that the benefits will make you want to go put one on right now.
Here’s why we love them so much: face masks can really dig deep into your pores. They provide a deep cleanse and get rid of the dead skin cells around the pores to make them shrink. (Gotta love that!) Regularly using face masks can also smoothen your skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by softening and enhancing elasticity.
These are just benefits that some face masks have in common. There are plenty of masks out there that are designed to provide particular benefits for your skin. It’s a good idea to take a look at your own skin and think about what you want in a face mask. (Check out our guide to multimasking to learn more about treating your specific needs!)
HERE ARE SOME MASKS YOU SHOULD TRY:
Philosophy: Purity Made Simple Pore Extractor Face Mask
This mask contains salicylic acid and natural exfoliants to help draw out impurities, scrub away blackheads and shrink your pores. Leave the mask on for just five minutes to see noticeable results!
Paradox: Marrakech Liquid Gold
Formulated without parabens, sulfates and phthalates, our face oil is great for multipurpose uses and 100% organic! Made with a blend of argan oil and rose oil, it’s perfect for your hair, skin, body and lips. Trust me — you’ll love it just as much as we do.
Eye cream is a must-have for everyone’s beauty cabinet. The skin around the eyes tends to be more fragile and ages more quickly than other areas. Since we’re constantly using our eyes, fine lines and wrinkles form under and around the eyes overtime. It’s also a spot that needs hydration to prevent dryness, but an eye cream takes care of all of those problems.
Quick tip: If you’re like me and wake up with puffy eyes in the morning, using a product with de-puffing effects is key!
HERE’S A DAILY EYE SERUM WE LOVE:
Paradox: Caffeinated Eye Cream Serum
Our eye cream serum is the perfect morning solution for brightening, hydrating and de-puffing your eyes. Using ingredients like green tea, this organic eye cream serum makes sure you’re prepared to start the day!
Keeping your skin hydrated shouldn’t stop just because you’re asleep! Using a night cream will help boost collagen in your skin, reduce fine lines and even out your skin tone and texture.
When choosing a night cream, be sure that it is not too thick. It’s a good idea to stay away from creams with fragrances and too many unnatural ingredients. While you do want to allow your skin to benefit from the product, you also want to let your skin breathe! Using a night cream is such an effortless and awesome way to wake up with radiant and soft skin. #IWokeUpLikeThis
HERE’S A FEW TO START YOUR SEARCH:
Drunk Elephant: Glycolic Night Serum
This night serum is for every skin type. It works through exfoliation to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pores and excess oil for an even complexion. Its ingredients include raspberry fruit extract, which rehydrates and soothes damaged skin.
