Dry shampoo is my actual savior and something I can’t live without. I have a very oily scalp and without it, I would need to wash and style my hair everyday. That’s exhausting even typing it out and if you wash your hair daily, power to you! If you’re like me and want to wash your hair the least, here’s how to get the most out of your dry shampoo!\nUse Your Dry Shampoo at Night. \n\nMost dry shampoos have a white powder that helps to absorb the oil. I always spray my hair at night so that as I sleep it can absorb up any oil, the white powdery look goes away and I don’t have to rub it in with my fingers in the morning. I try to avoid that for a few reasons, 1) removing dry shampoo from your roots with oily fingers seems counterintuitive to why you’re using it and 2) my hair gets frizzy when I’m rubbing the roots and touching my hair. \nI find spraying my hair at night to be pretty game changing because you wake up with fresh hair and it’s one less thing to worry about in the morning. \nGive Your Dry Shampoo Some Time To Work. \nFeel like dry shampoo doesn’t work for you? Make sure you’re giving it enough time to work and absorb oils at the roots, especially before brushing and styling your hair. Brushing your dry shampoo out immediately just moves the oil through your hair and doesn’t fix the problem at hand -- absorbing oils at the root so you can prolong your hairstyle. That’s why I love my bedtime application method because then I can brush my hair in the morning like normal knowing that I gave my dry shampoo time to work. If you use it in the morning or while getting ready, try applying dry shampoo, doing your makeup and getting dressed then brushing it out. Just that little bit of time will allow it to work better and more importantly, allow your hair to last longer through the week!\nSpray Dry Shampoo On Your Roots Before Workouts. \nIf you have a cardio class or a higher intensity workout spray your roots pre workout with dry shampoo. Then once class is over you don't have to spray dry shampoo on wet hair and you can go straight for a blow dryer on the cold blast to help dry the sweat in your hair. The dry shampoo will absorb any oils while you sweat allowing you to save your blowout without having to skip your workout. \nBoston Dermatologist, Dr. Papri Sarkar recommends always brushing out your hair after a workout to remove the layer of powder and buildup collecting on your scalp from your dry shampoo. If you get product build up or clogged pores on your scalp this step is essential and you can repeat this method a couple of times before washing your hair. \nFind the Right Dry Shampoo.\n\nThere are so many different dry shampoo options so if you don't like an aerosol can formula you can find powders that actually work really well at expelling super oily roots. There’s super scented dry shampoos that double as hair perfume, options for different hair colors like darker colored powder for brunettes, volumizing formulas, sprays, pastes, and even clean options so finding the right option for you will definitely help your hair to last longer through the week. \nUse a Clarifying Shampoo.\nIf you’re going in with lots of dry shampoo, often, you’re going to want a clarifying shampoo to help shed that layer of product buildup. Hair with buildup will often look dull, flat, appear more oily at the roots and won’t hold a style or curl as well. Shedding this layer of buildup will allow your dry shampoo to work more effectively and your hair will look better. There’s clarifying shampoos that you can use weekly or even scalp scrubs that help to shed the layer of buildup. Both work and it depends on your preference and what works for you but aim to use these once a week as they can be harsh and even strip hair color. \nStay connected with us!
