Here at Paradox, we believe in highlighting women and their successes: our series Paradox Muse does just that. This series focuses on hardworking, creative, and self-made women that inspire us to live our lives with passion and purpose. They express themselves through every facet of life. In our fashion profiles, we focus on women who express themselves and their tenacity through fashion and style. These women are our muses, and we hope they inspire you, as well.

It’s no question that Danish fashion has been on the rise and fashion influencers everywhere have become increasingly interested in this aesthetic. But, you may be wondering, what is Danish fashion? According to Scandinavian Standard’s  Guide to Danish Fashion, this style centers around minimalistic, monochromatic, and androgynous looks. Danish ‘It Girls’ create looks and social media spreads with such an aesthetic in mind, curating a clean and creative brand for themselves that then works to inspire their followers一 including you and me!

One such Danish ‘It Girl’ influencer is the one and only Pernille Teisbaek (you can follow her on instagram  @pernilleteisbaek). Pernille Teisbaek has worked in fashion for 15 years, jumping from jobs with various fashion magazines and running her own blog, to working as a stylist and co-founding the creative agency known as  Social Zoo. Today, she creates content for her social media following and works as the Creative Director at  Social Zoo. As stated on their website, she has become "one of the most influential women in fashion." For more information on Pernille, check out her website (pernilleteisbaek.com) and her recent interview with  Vogue Paris. Perhaps her most iconic looks fall under the category of ‘business chic’ style. Pernille’s instagram is filled with outfits for the working girl: poised, empowered, and driven一 all while looking amazing! Her boss-babe-chic style is made up of monochromatic power suits and simple, complementary accessories; it functions under the idea that when you look put together, you feel put together. Boss babe style is a great way to feel confident and powerful, which works to encourage productivity and hard work. Pernille’s looks do just that! Get these looks with the ideas below:

Play with silhouettes: Try to pair straight leg pants with an oversized blazer一 if you don’t have one and aren’t looking to buy one, maybe borrow one from your boyfriend or another friend’s closet. Another option, as in the picture on the right, is to pair high waisted pants with a cropped blazer to help build a flattering silhouette that works to highlight your natural beauty.

Layer your pieces: Layering pieces either above or under the power suit is also a great way to achieve this style. If you have a coat you like, layer it over; if you have a bodysuit or turtleneck, you can layer it under. This type of layering works to add dimension to your look and also places a greater emphasis on the suit itself.

Keep it monochromatic: The pants, shirt, blazer, and any other layers you choose to add don’t need to be sold as a set, or even from the same brand. Instead, you can look through your pieces and color match the different pieces so as to create a monochromatic color scheme for the overall ensemble.

Pernille Teisbaek also knows her way around a casual, yet chic, ensemble. Alongside her business chic outfits, her instagram spread also bears witness to a surplus of comfy-casual looks. As a working mother, she understands that comfort is key一 but so is feeling good in these comfortable outfits. Sometimes it can be easy to lose yourself in comfortable and oversized pieces, which only works to make you feel less productive and empowered. Pernille, however, does a great job of putting together pieces that are both flattering and functional. This way, you can keep it casual and productive: the best of both worlds! Get this style with the ideas below:

Match your colors: If you don’t own a sweat set, you can look through the sweats and pullovers that you already own and try to find colors that coordinate to create the look of a set. This set aesthetic is a great way to pull your outfit together while still keeping it casual and comfortable.

Keep it simple: To recreate this style, all you need is a pair of joggers and a hoodie or a comfy shirt and jeans. These are pieces most of us have; the trick is in the styling. If your jeans are looser, aim for a shirt that is your size, rather than oversized. Jeans or leggings that are a bit more form fitting are perfect to pair with more oversized graphic tees.

Along with perfecting boss babe chic and casual chic, Pernille Teisbaek’s feed proves that she’s mastered formal chic, as well. Pernille’s formal looks fall in line with her minimalistic, Danish fashion inspired style: they’re simplistic while also including some subtle detailing that elevates the overall look. Keeping formal looks monochromatic and within an established style is important because it works to maintain confidence in more social and potentially overwhelming situations. Formal events can sometimes be stressful, so confidence becomes the key to success. For Pernille, suchconfidence comes from her style. Get these looks with the suggestions below:

Put it in neutral: In terms of formal looks, neutral tones help to create a more luxurious overall aesthetic. Using a plainly colored or monochromic patterned dress is a great way to keep your look neutral, allowing you more options when it comes to complementary styling.

Play with accessories: Adding a statement pair of earrings, shoes, or a bag is a great way to elevate a neutral ensemble. It also allows you to create more looks using the same pieces. Find your favorite articles in your wardrobe and experiment with how you style them together to curate a fresh outfit for a night out.

Change up your hair and makeup: Instead of locking into one hairstyle, try to find a few that you feel comfortable in. This way, you can mix and match the hairstyle to the style of the dress, which works to add more versatility and uniqueness to each overall look. These changes also work to elevate the monochrome ensemble, making sure they don’t become too one-note.

As any minimalist fashion influencer would say, versatile accessories are key. Each of Pernille Teisbaek’s looks incorporate simple accessories, often in the versatile (yet powerful) color scheme of gold, white, and black. Such accessories are perfect for spicing up monochromatic outfits and allowing for both function and fashion. Danish fashion emphasizes investing in high quality, versatile pieces that allow for multiple uses and that lend themselves to a multitude of looks. Accordingly, minimalistic accessories are suitable to ensembles across all styles一 from business chic, to comfortable, to fancy. Get this accessory aesthetic with the ideas below:

Create a color scheme: Look through the accessories you already own and use these observations to establish a color scheme for your accessories. Do you prefer gold jewelry or silver jewelry? To recreate Pernille’s aesthetic, you can utilize gold, black, and white in your accessorizing, or create a scheme of your own.

Consider versatility: When accessorizing your looks, go for pieces that are simple and more versatile; work with pieces that will match with the rest of your closet. This works to curate a unique aesthetic for yourself while also decluttering your closet一 it’s a win-win!
